Amazon Kindle How-to Series: Replacing the Battery on Your Amazon Kindle
Since the Amazon Kindle is a fairly new innovation, most owners have not had their Kindle e-book reader long enough to require a new battery. However, if you use your Kindle frequently and charge it often then you may get to the point where the battery doesn’t seem to last as long as when your Kindle was new. This is not an usual phenomenon – most rechargeable batteries have a “life” measured in number of re-charges.
Another reason that you may wish to replace the battery on your Kindle is that you are going to be using it for a long period of time and can’t charge it. For example let’s say you are planning a trip with a long international airplane flight. In this case you can take two (or more) fully charged Kindle batteries with you and replace them as required.
To save battery life, the Kindle goes into a “sleep” mode if you have not been reading an e-book or listening to an audio book for a long period of time. You’ll recognize when your Kindle has entered “sleep” mode because a screen saver will appear on your screen in-place of the book you were reading. Kindle comes with built-in screen savers, or you can check the site in the resource box below to learn how-to create your own.
Your Amazon Kindle has a built-in battery power meter you will find at the bottom right-side of the screen. The battery power meter is right next to the wireless signal strength meter. It’s sometimes easy to get these meters confused. The wireless signal strength indicator appears as a bar graph with a small antenna in-front of the first bar. When your battery power meter shows nearly all white you know it’s either time to recharge your Kindle or replace your battery. If the power meter goes down quickly after a charge it may be time to replace your battery.
Here’s how you replace the battery on your Amazon Kindle:
1. Turn-off your Kindle
2. Find a soft cloth or other means to protect the face of your Kindle
3. Place your Kindle face down on a flat, secure surface
4. Slide the gray back cover off of your Kindle
5. You will see the gray battery in it’s compartment
6. Note the battery compartment has a rounded “notch” on one end
7. Using your finger (not a screwdriver or any other device that might damage your Kindle)gently push the battery to the back of the compartment then lift it out
8. The battery is attached to your Kindle by a white plastic connector and several wires
9. GENTLY pull the white connector back until the battery is disconnected from your Kindle
10. Attach your new battery by pushing the white wiring connector into the proper location in the battery compartment
11. Seat the battery into the back of the battery compartment – make sure the white wiring connector is attached properly
12. Press the battery down at the front of the battery compartment – note that the battery and the compartment have a small notch and grove to help you line-up the battery
13. Replace the cover
14 Turn on your Kindle and you’re ready to get back to reading your favorite e-book or listening to your favorite audio book
Congratulations! You have just learned how-to replace the battery in your Amazon Kindle.
While this is not a procedure everyone will do regularly it’s helpful to know either when your battery does not hold a charge or if you are traveling with more than one charged battery.
One more important point! The battery in your Amazon Kindle is made from Lithium Polymer. It should be disposed of properly – likely at a battery recycling center located near you.

Downgrade Psp to Version1.5 Using Psp Battery
I. Get ready (Reformat PSP memory stick)
Before you get started with the downgrade, you need to reformat your PSP memory stick. If you donât know how to reformat it, you can refer to the steps below:
1.Press the HOME button on the bottom left of your PSP.
2.Use the arrow keys to move to the Settings area, then move the up and down keys to go to System Settings.
3.Push the “X” button (or the âOâ button, depending on which button is the âEnterâ button of your PSP) and scroll to find the âFormat Memory Stickâ option. Push the “X” button again to select this option.
4.Your PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick, choose Yes and your PSP will be physically formatted in a few seconds
To do the downgrade, you also need to download an application pack. Click Download Pandora Battery Application Pack (Find the Guides label on the right side, which named Download for PSP downgrade application). After the downloading is finished, what you get will be a compressed application pack named âpandoraâ, decompress it to the root directory of a hard disc, say Disc H. In this âpandoraâ folder, you can see four folders including mspformat, msinst, battery and installer, and a file named UPDATE.PBP.
Now you are ALL ready to turn your PSP battery to a Pandoraâs battery and use it to downgrade any PSP!
II.Turn your PSP battery into a padoraâs battery
Step 1: Logically reformat your PSP
Connect your PSP to your computer. And your PSP will be recognized as a new hard disc, say K. Then click Start -> Run, input cmd in the popped up dialog box, and click OK to enter DOS system. Use the below commands one by one to run the mspformat file:
Input âH:â, and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard. (Here H is the disc where the âpanndoraâ folder is located)
Input âcd pandoraâ and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard.
Input âcd mspformatâ and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard.
Then input âmspformat.exe Kâ and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard. (Here K is the name of the disc that your PSP is recognized on your computer.)
After these commands, your PSP will be logically reformatted in a minute.
Step 2: Open the recognized PSP hard disc on your computer, create a new folder and name it âpspâ, open this âpspâ folder, create a new folder and name it âgameâ. Copy and paste the âinstallerâ folder and the âbatteryâ folder into the âgameâ folder. Then copy and paste the UPDATE.PBP file to the root directory of the PSP hard disc on your computer.
Step 3: On your PSP, switch to the Game option, press X or O (depending on which is the âEnterâ key of your PSP). Go to âinstallerâ and press X or O to run it.
In a few seconds, a file named âmsipl.binâ will be created on the root directory of your PSP memory disc. And now, you should take out your memory disc and then put it back in, which seems to be useless but is a very necessary step.
Step 4: Connect to your PSP back to your computer. Then enter DOS system as mentioned in Step 1. Use the below commands one by one to run the mspformat file:
Input âH:â, and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard.
Input âcd pandoraâ and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard.
Input âcd minstâ and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard.
Then input âmsinst.exe K K:msipl.bin â and press the âEnterâ Key on your keyboard. (Here K is the name of the disc that your PSP is recognized on your computer.)
When you see a popped up message asking if you are sure, click âYesâ.
Step 5: Go back to your PSP, switch to the Game option, press X or O (depending on which is the âEnterâ key of your PSP). Go to âbatteryâ and press X or O to run it, press X or O to OK every popped up message to finish running the battery application.
Now, your pandoraâs battery has been created!
III. Use the created pandoraâs battery to downgrade your PSP
After you turn your batter to a PSP downgrade battery (pandoraâs battery), you can use it to downgrade your PSP by following the instructions below:
Take out your PSP Memory Stick and battery, then put back in your PSP Memory Stick first, and put your battery back in.
Turn your PSP power on, when you see three options; select the Downgrade option, your PSP will be downgraded in a very short time and it will be automatically shut down afterwards.
Turn your PSP on again, and you will see a blue screen. But no worries, you can just press the O key, and your PSP system is already version 1.5!
Note: The above process will turn your PSP battery to a pandoraâs battery that can be used for PSP downgrade. But the pandoraâs battery cannot be used to play PSP games, videos or music. And the process is not reversible. You will need to get an additional PSP battery for regular uses. However, you can use your pandoraâs battery to downgrade any PSP to version 1.5 or even repair you PSP.
Longer Life For Your Cell Phone Battery
Cell phone has become one of the basic essentials among the techno-savvies irrespective of their profession and life style. Most people are using cell phone in place of a landline connection primarily due to their portability.
However, the handy device needs proper care and attention for consistency with its performance. When it comes to cell phone performance, the first thing that comes to our mind is the battery of a cell phone which forms the vital part of the device.
The functionality of the cell phone battery can be decided from two aspects- the interval between the charges and the life of the battery on a whole.
To increase the life of the battery between charges:
The simplest way is to switch the cell off when you do not want to receive a call, for instance at nights or after business hours or at times when your cell phone is out of coverage area. In an area where there is poor or no signal the cell may search for a better connection consuming much battery power.
Use ring tones of your cell phone instead of using the vibration mode and try to keep the volume as low as possible. The vibrate function eats up much battery power making the battery run down of power faster.
Flash photography, connection to internet and Bluetooth device drain the battery quicker. Hence, switching off the unnecessary features when not in use can save the power of your cell phone battery. WiFi and GPS enabled cell phone are also more prone to higher battery consumption and should be turned off.
Well, limiting the talk time over cell phone is healthy for both the battery and you as well. Longer call results in more consumption of battery.
Use the GSM mode of the cell phone in stead of using it in 3G/Dual mode.
Turn off the back light of your cell phone.
Extend the Life of Cell phone Battery:
The new battery should be initialized properly. Charge the new battery completely before installing it into the cell phone.
Keep the cell phone in room temperature as much as possible. Exposure to excessive heat may deter the battery to last long and perform properly. Moreover, try to keep the battery cool.
It is very important to charge the cell phone battery properly according to its type. The nickel-based batteries need to be discharged completely once in every two to three weeks and then recharged again. The lithium ion batteries should be discharged till the low battery warning. Recharge it before the battery is completely drained out. However, it is important to use cell phone charger meant for the type of battery.
Storing the battery properly is another vital thing. Store it away from any metal and make sure that the cell phone battery is not exposed to moisture.
The battery contact should be cleaned in regular time interval as they accumulate dirt over time.
No matter how much care you take of your cell phone battery, it is sure to die and decrease its performance sooner or later. You can ask the manufacturer to get it refurbished. Some of the cell phones have a `Battery Save` option that can be turned on to increase the life span of the battery. Ensure that the temperature inside a car is not high if you are using a car charger to recharge your cell phone.
When you are using delicate gadgets like cell phone, it is essential to take proper care of it. The cell phone battery is one of the delicate parts of the cell phone and its performance depends largely on the way you take care of it. However, charging the cell phone in a proper way is the important aspect of battery care that will ensure prolonged life for your cell phone battery.
